Instagram ‘s Updated Layout

USE EVERYTHING TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, Instagram has changed the layout of their news feed. What was once a photo-focused app has now become heavily focused on video. With the booming popularity of TikTok, Instagram has pivoted their business to help stay in the game. Rather than becoming obsolete and lost, Instagram has made changes over the past few years to keep up.

First, Instagram introduced Reels which are essentially TikTok videos. A new Reels button was added to the navigation bar and they were first ridiculed for copying TikTok but now Instagram stats show that Reels are one of the most popular features on the app.

With over 1 billion monthly users, marketers are increasing their focus and spend on TikTok. Instagram understands they must compete so over the past few weeks their newest update has rolled out to match the TikTok interface even more.

Everything still feels like Instagram, but it certainly resembles TikTok’s interface more closely. The main feed has videos that fill the full screen. Photos don’t appear to be sized differently yet, but according to this video explanation New Feed Explanation from Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, the photos could be seeing a new change as well.

How does this impact your business and marketing tactics? People want to consume good content, it needs to please their eye. In order to do that, we need to make sure we are making things that they will like. As of this exact moment, we don’t see photos being any larger but it is crucial to ensure your social media managers are staying up to date with any changes so you content can be optimized.

If you have the chance to take up a consumer’s entire screen, do it! Don’t come up short on the influence you can have on consumers.
